Why I’m Writing These Blogs (and Making YouTube Videos!)
Let me start with this: I’m a teacher, yes—but I’m also a learner. A lifelong, curious, slightly obsessive learner. I’ve always found joy in exploring new ideas, trying out new tools, and discovering creative ways to make lessons more engaging. That’s why I’ve launched this blog and my YouTube channel—because I want to share the journey with others who care about education as much as I do.
So… why am I doing all of this?
To be honest, it started as a little itch. I’d often find myself deep in an article on teaching strategies, watching hours of YouTube videos on creative lesson ideas, or downloading free classroom resources from around the internet. I’d try things out, tweak them for my students, and sometimes create my own from scratch. I realised I was building this treasure trove of ideas—lesson materials, thought-provoking articles, engaging activities—and I wanted somewhere to put it all.
Not just for others, but for myself too.
Because honestly? I forget! I come across so many brilliant things—an infographic, a teaching video, a fun new strategy I want to try—but when I need it later, I can't always remember where I saw it. So this blog is also my personal memory bank, a space to store the gold I find so I can come back to it when planning lessons or when I need fresh inspiration.
A Resource Bank for Curious Teachers (and Learners)
One of my biggest goals is to build a resource bank—a living library of things that work. I want to share the tools and resources I use in my classroom: worksheets, digital tools, lesson ideas, links to great reads. I want to keep them all in one place, not only to help me stay organised but to make it easier for others to access them too.
And it’s not just for teachers. I also want this space to help learners. I often create videos or slides to help my own students understand tricky topics. Instead of keeping those tucked away in a Google Drive, I want to put them out into the world. Maybe they help someone else, maybe they offer a different way of understanding, or maybe they just make the learning process feel a little less lonely.
The YouTube Channel: Learning Out Loud
The YouTube channel is where I take these ideas and bring them to life. Sometimes a video just explains things better than text. Plus, I want learners (and fellow teachers) to see the real side of teaching and learning—messy, fun, imperfect, but full of heart.
These videos will be a mix of:
-
Quick explainers on topics I teach
-
Reviews or walkthroughs of classroom tools I use
-
Reflections and real talk about the teaching life
-
And anything else that fuels curiosity!
What You’ll Find Here
This blog will become a space where you’ll find:
-
A collection of classroom-friendly resources
-
Useful articles, tools, and websites for teachers and learners
-
Real reflections on teaching, learning, and everything in between
-
Tips I’ve picked up over the years (and new ones I’m testing out)
-
And yes—occasional reminders to myself of the cool stuff I’ve already found and forgotten!
For the Curious, the Creative, and the Sometimes-Frazzled
I didn’t start this because I had all the answers. I started it because I’m curious. Because I want to grow. Because I want to help others find the joy in learning and teaching—even on the hard days.
I’ll be honest—I’m not the most “Pinterest-perfect” teacher or bursting with ideas 24/7. But I notice things. All the time. Like when my cat does something cute or something that’s basically a living example of mutualism, or when I scroll past a brilliant worksheet or a devotion idea I know would help my learners.
And what do I do?
I save it…
Somewhere.
A random tab. A photo. My already-cluttered Google Drive. And then, poof—forgotten.
So this blog (and my YouTube channel) is partly a gift to myself. It’s my organized space to store the inspiring things I stumble across, so I can actually find and use them again. It’s also for my colleagues and learners—because if it helped me, maybe it’ll help you too.
And I hope that by sharing what I’ve learned (and am still learning), this blog becomes a space where curiosity leads the way. Where fellow teachers feel less alone, and where learners find resources that support them on their journey.
So if you’re a teacher, I hope this helps make your load a little lighter. If you’re a student, I hope this space helps you feel supported, empowered, and seen. And if you’re just here for the ride—welcome! You’re in the right place.
Let’s Stay Curious
Thanks for being here. Whether you're reading a post, downloading a resource, or watching a quick video, I hope you find something helpful. Here's to teaching, learning, sharing—and remembering where we put the good stuff 😉.
Let’s build, reflect, grow—and most importantly, stay curious. 🌟
